Lane Nelson is the President of HarrisData, a 40 year old software company that develops applications for mid-sized customers using IBM Power. Mr. Nelson is responsible for the day-to-day management of the company, and has significant influence over product strategy. During his tenure, HarrisData has developed and deployed an architecture the supports both native browser-based and ‘green-screen’ access to the same business applications on the IBM i. Today, HarrisData is transitioning applications into the realm of touch devices with an architecture that relies on RESTful web services hosted on the IBM i platform.
Prior to HarrisData, Mr. Nelson spent six years with Pilot Software, a $30 million provider of high-end decision support solutions. At Pilot, Mr. Nelson served as a marketing director leading a strategic move into vertical marketing with the introduction of retail decision support solutions and led the introduction of Pilot’s web-based decision support products.
Mr. Nelson spent four years at an $80 million Budget-Rent-A-Car franchisee as Director of Fleet and Information Services, where his responsibilities included the management of all business systems, primarily running on the IBM System 38. Mr. Nelson also served as Systems Engineer and Marketing Representative at Pansophic Systems, a leading provider of systems software for IBM computers.
Mr. Nelson holds a BS from Yale University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
The function of the IoT Community, is to focus on the adoption & application of IoT in commercial environments, seeking to understand & contribute to applying the technology or overcoming the wide variety of barriers, inhibitors, and technical & operational issues. As a member of the board, Lane will provide impartial input and guidance to the overall vision, strategy and execution that is helping to shape the current and future direction for the IoT Community, as well as the broader IoT industry.
